On the border of the Yunnan and Sichuan Chinese Provinces, the clear waters of Lake Lugu are bordered by dozens of traditional villages including Baojiahe, a mountain settlement.

My suggestion:
If you want to learn more about Mosuo culture, then check out the Mosuo Folk Museum, which houses a fascinating collection of photos taken by Joseph Rock during the 1920's.
My review

A beautifully preserved, natural setting, Lake Lugu and its surroundings are a hiker's paradise. Tours can be organized from Lijiang, taking in Lake Lugu and Tiger Leaping Gorge, before reaching the Tibetan Shangri La region. Over a couple of weeks you'll get to see the best of Yunnan's sites.

You can also meet local, ethnic communities such as the Mosuo, Naxi and Yi people. It's a rural based economy, where rice, fruits and vegetables are the main sources of income. Perhaps the most famous ethnic group is the Mosuo, a matriarchal society that believes in sexual liberty.
