Lake Kanas is a superb mountain lake, with turquoise water, that is 24 kilometers long, and is in the north west point of China, in the province of Xinjiang.
My suggestion:
My advice is: take a boat tripon Laka Kanas and feel the wind in your hair, climb to the top of Guan Yu Ting for a majestic view, and finish the day with a gallop on horseback along the banks of the lake.
My review
In the vast desert region of the Altai mountains live the descendants of the Mongols, and the Kazakh, Uighur and Tuvan ethnic minorities, who live by raising animals and fishing.
Lake Kanas is surrounded by alpine landscapes: conifer forests, green prairies, and snowy peaks. It is often compared to Switzerland or Canada but we are still in China here, 2,500 kilometers west of Beijing. You can see snow leopards, lynx, deer, hares and many species of birds. Just like in Loch Ness, legend has it that there is a monster living in the lake.

The village of Hemu is a good place to stopover for hikers intending to visit and explore Kanas Lake National Park.
My review
Located in the extreme northwest of China, close to Russia, Mongolia and Kazakhstan, this is a region that for a long time remained inaccessible to foreigners. But having finally opened up in the 1990s, it is now recognized as being one of the most beautiful areas in China.
The landscapes and scenery around this small town are as splendid as they are contrasting, featuring glaciers, dense conifer forests, rivers and mountains, as well as steppes and areas of meadowland.
The town's inhabitants are members of a semi-nomadic ethnic group descended from the Mongols. They survive mainly by hunting and making use of wood from the forest. The tribe, which for a long time remained cut off from the rest of the world, has been poetically named the " Tribe in the Clouds " and its members "Forest People". By arranging it through a specialist agency, it's possible to stay with local people in one of the village's characteristic log houses..
It's an unforgettable experience!
