Perched at 3,500m in the Hengduan Mountains, Deqin sits on the Chinese/Burmese/Indian border. It's the last town in Yunnan before you cross into the Tibet Autonomous Region.

My review

Even if the town itself is nothing to write home about, it's still a great base for hikers wanting to explore the region's impressive landscape.

Close to Deqin you'll find the majestic, alluring Meili Snow Mountain. The Kawagebo Peak is at 6,740m, the highest in Yunnan and yet to be conquered! From Deqin you can follow numerous trails that cross Yunnan and the Tibetan countryside. Heading to the Mingyong Glacier and Mekong Canyon are two for your itinerary.
