Situated in the southeastern corner of Guizhou, Gunchong is a perfectly preserved little village, nestled amongst the mountains and paddy fields.

My review

Few people come here, as it's not on the list of standard treks to ethnic villages in the south of Guizhou and north of Guangxi. Most tours go to better known, touristy places such as Chengyang and Zhaoxing, leaving equally interesting, but less popular villages such as Gunchong unexplored.

A stopover at Gunchong is a cultural eye-opener. If you have time, stay over for the night. You can shack up with local families - what better way to immerse yourself in their rural lives and traditional customs! Heading out of Gunchong, you can follow a 3-hour trail that leads to the village of Diping, with its stunning Wind and Rain Bridge.
