If, during your trip to China, you head off to explore the Dong region, then you must pay the lovely village of Diping in Guizhou Province a visit - I can't recommend it highly enough.

My review

A few kilometers from its better known neighbor, Zhaoxing, Diping is home to the magnificent Dong Wind and Rain Bridge.

This bridge at Diping crosses the Nanjiang River and is an impressive 70m long. Beautifully chiseled and sculpted, the bridge is a popular meeting point for village residents. Crowned by three stunning towers, it was built without using a single nail or screw - ancient engineering at its best!

As with all Dong villages, stopping over at Diping will you the chance to meet its people and plunge yourself into their lives and culture. Close by are great trails that run through paddy fields and surrounding hills, with some breathtaking views.
