Zhaoxing (China)

Nestled in a valley covered with rice paddies, Zhaoxing is a real authentic gem. The Wind and Rain Bridges as well as the Drum Towers are characteristic of Dong villages. Everything blends in here - the landscape, kids laughing, women chattering whilst farmers and porters go about their daily lives.

From Zhaoxing you can follow several paths across the hills and rice fields to reach neighboring villages a couple of hours away. One particular beauty spot is Tangan, which has an amazing view across the valley.

Use your time in Zhaoxing to learn more about Dong culture - meet its residents, who are known for their kindness and hospitality. Market and celebration days, such as marriages, are a great time to get out and enjoy the traditional customs of these southern Chinese people.
