At 2,600m the little mountain village of Kanding in Sichuan Province, is populated by the Han people, as well as being home to a large Tibetan community.

My review

For centuries this was an influential, cultural crossroads, ideally placed on the Tea Route. As a result, traces of every religion are found in the town including the Jingang and Namo Buddhist Temples, a mosque and a Roman Catholic church.

Kanding is surrounded by stunning mountains, the perfect landscape in which to enjoy a summer's walk. It's a great area to tour by foot or bike. If you're feeling lazy you can grab a cable car to take you from the town to the mountain peaks. And, at the end of the day, what better than to relax in Er Dao Qiao's hot springs?

Finally, at about 20km from Kanding, at 3,200m altitude, you'll find the Mugecuo National Park. Lakes, forests, mountains, prairies and even Buddhist rock art...the area has it all. Amazing scenery not to be missed!
