Situated between Lijiang and Shangri La, in Yunnan Province, the little village of Shigu benefits from a panoramic view of the Yangtze River, at the point where it makes its first bend before heading towards the northeast of the country.

My review

A village overlooked by the magnificent Hailuo Mountains. The best place to admire this grandiose landscape is from the upper levels of the village - ask the locals to show you the way.

Mountains apart, the village itself is a delightful place to visit. A one-time trading post on Tea and Horse Caravan Road, it's steeped in history. The name 'Shigu' means 'stone drum' in reference to an an impressive, white marble drum that takes pride of place in the village. It records the story of the Mu, a influential Naxi family.
