In the province of Anhui, about 40 kilometers south of the Yellow Mountain (Huang Shan), Xidi is a small town that is alive with history and remarkably well preserved.

My review

Nestled in the superb mountainous environment of Yixian country, it is a nice cultural outing for people traveling in Anhui.

Xidi and the ancient village of Hongcun are both inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as "ancient villages in the south of Anhui". Xidi is a rare example of village organization and architecture, and of a "non-urban" people who flourished through trade during the feudal era.

About 1,000 people still live there, in the same traditional houses as their ancestors. It is also possible to visit about a hundred of them. The jumble of streams and warren of lanes create a very particular atmosphere that is extremely charming.
