The Naxi village of Baisha, in Yunnan Province, is an enjoyable place to visit if you're passing through Lijiang and looking for somewhere to escape to for the day.

My review

The village can easily be reached by bicycle : the route is flat, and you should allow around 40 minutes to complete this particularly charming journey.

Formerly the capital of the Naxi kingdom, this was where the ethnic group's ancestors first settled after descending the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Numerous houses built in the traditional architectural style and around 50 frescoes dating from the Ming dynasty have been preserved in Baisha. The frescoes can today be seen in the Dabaoji Palace and the Liuli Temple.

Another unmissable attraction in Baisha is the herbal medicine clinic owned by the famous Doctor Ho. Additionally, it's easy to find beautiful fabrics and traditional cloth prints as you wander the village's little streets.
