This ancient water town is considered to be one of China's most beautiful places. Even if Tongli has adapted to the tourist industry, it has still managed to preserve it's own, special charm.
Its bridge decks seem to float, as if Tongli had been literally placed on the water. Take a canal tour and enjoy its water level architecture, whilst catching glimpses of village life.
Its streets are paved and its houses boast delicately sculpted brick doors...Tongli has a lot of hidden gems! Make sure you see the Three Bridges, (Taiping, Jili et Changqing), which 'protect' the town as well as the Chongben and Jiayin Halls. The Tuisi Garden is also a Tongli source of pride. Curious types may also like its particularly unusual museum, which charts the history of ancient China's sexual practices.
