The best way to see the old houses and little streets is by boat leaving from the Garden of the Humble Administrator. Suzhou is a town full of gardens, those famous symbols of classic Chinese art. Our personal favorites were the The Lion Grove Garden and The Master of the Nets Garden.
Part of the town is modern and two streets stuck out - Pinjiang Lu and Shantang Jie, lined with coffee shops, and restaurants, attracting both tourists and Chinese students alike. Suzhou is also the silk capital; the silk museum (as with all of Suzhou's museums) is well worth a tour.
