Perched at 3,000m, Xiahe Town is the capital of the Xiahe District in Gansu Province. Its distinctive Tibetan Buddhist culture and flourishing traditions have earned it the name « Little Tibet ».

My suggestion:
If you're there during winter, the temples and monasterys organize impressive ceremonies and gatherings, giving you the perfect opportunity to learn about Tibetan beliefs, its culture and its art.
My review

If there's one thing that attracts pilgrims and visitors to Xiahe, it's the Labrang Monastery, one of six monasterys of the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism. Apart from being the most important monastery outside of Tibet, it also forms a huge village, comprising of temples, colleges and houses.

Xiahe itself is imbibed with folklore and surrounded by incredible scenery - well worth a detour. From Spring to Summer, the town hums to the rythym of colorful folklore festivals.
