The region of Qinghai is one of the most remote in China, but perhaps also one of the most beautiful, rich in breathtaking scenery and grandiose sites.
For a long time Xining has been known across China as an economic power. It is the hinge between the west and the center, and an important stage on the Silk Road. Nowadays, the city and its surroundings have preserved superb natural and cultural remains.
Ta'er monastery ( Kumbum in Tibetan), which is one of the six main monasteries of the Gelugpa tradition, and one of the biggest outside Tibet, is one of the sites you must not miss. Dongguan Mosque is also worth mentioning, and the North Mountain Temple (the Taoist temple of Beishan ). As for nature, Qinghai Lake and Bird Island are definitely worth a detour.
