This ancient, character-filled city draws its charm and cultural energy from two main influences: the surrounding countryside and traditional Chinese urbanism.
Jianshui is worth visiting primarily for its very well preserved monuments and old houses. Don't miss the Confucius Temple (or Cultural Temple) –the second largest in the country – the Zhu Family Residence and Gardens, and the Chaoyang Gateway Arch, at the heart of the old town. You can also go and admire the Double Dragon Bridge, a veritable masterpiece of architecture located not far from Jianshui. To finish off with, take an excursion to the little village of Tuanman, where you can visit the remarkable Zhang Residence.
