Myanmar, or burma, is a state in Southeast Asia lying at the crossroads between Bangladesh, Thailand, China, Laos and India. Myanmar is a magnificent country with an incredible historic and cultural heritage to offer.
First tip: Visit Myanmar between December and March. Second tip: Plan to take two to three weeks to see this beautiful country. Lastly, it's cheaper to take a low-cost flight from Bangkok than a direct one from Paris.
Myanmar really is one of my favorite places. I've had the opportunity to visit several countries in Southeast Asia, but it has to be said that you rarely encounter such a rich wealth of heritage anywhere else than Myanmar. The country has too many monasteries, temples and other historic buildings to count, with a special mention for the Bagan temples: truly a wonder without equal in my view.
Three weeks to visit Myanmar seemed just right to me, giving you time to see the capital, Yangon, and the Shwedagon Paya, to visit the Mandalay region to the north, to enjoy the peace and quiet of Inle Lake and the splendor of Bagan, and to relax on Chaung Tha Beach on the Gulf of Bengal.
Enduring memories and an impression of frank, genuine authenticity will stay with me in my mind. The Burmese people are extremely polite and you will find meeting them a pleasure.
The country is becoming more and more touristy, but I nevertheless think it still offers the chance to experience that sought after sense of really getting away to somewhere different and exotic!
