Burma, is it a beach holiday destination?

If you want to reward yourself with a little rest and relaxation after scrambling through the Burmese forests, and visiting a multitude of temples, then go for it, the beaches and coconut palms of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea can please the most difficult and diverse tastes. Burma really is a must do beach holiday destination.

The Bay of Bengal

It would be a pity not to enhance a trip to Burma with a short, lazy break on the beach on the Bay of Bengal. There are several options, according to what you are looking for, your preferences and your budget!

The most famous beach in the country is Ngapali and there is a reason for it. The paradisaical setting ofwhite sand, turquoise water and coconut palms is combined with a feeling of exotic comfort. Touristy, but not overly so, Ngapali is one of those luxury destinations whose prices are rising rapidly because they are so prized. Near it, Kantaya is sublime and has managed to preserve some of its authentic charm, in part because it's not easy to get to. Here too there's not a lot to do except laze on the seashore.

Another popular beach is Ngwe Saung, which is even quieter than Ngapali. On the programme are diving, swimming and relaxing on a sandy beach.

Finally, if you are looking a more lively beach with some local life, and aren't particular about the colour of the sand and the water, then you'll enjoy Chaungtha. There you can sit on the sand to enjoy barbequed kebabs of seafood and fish and the evenings are punctuated by the sound of karaoke on the beach. Immerse yourself in a holiday like the Burmese have.

The Andaman Sea

Part of the country's coast is lapped by the famous Andaman Sea. Unfortunately, access to it is forbidden except for in Kawthaung, which only has one luxury resort. Its an area where there are absolutely no buildings and the setting is absolutely magical, genuine and completely different. It's the same for the Mergui Islands, a paradisaical, inhabited archipelago which people mostly explore from cruises. During a trip to Burma going diving and meeting the fish is a definite must.

There's no doubt that Burma is a top class beach holiday destination.
