Although off the beaten track, the small village of Saltoluokta has something for everyone. It's perfect for experiencing unspoiled nature first hand.

My suggestion:
Do remember to book accommodation in advance! Despite its diminutive size, Saltoluokta is at the crossroads of several national parks frequented by hikers, and is popular amongst families in summer.
My review

On my way back from Ritsem, I stopped off at Saltoluokta. I have to admit that it's an idyllic place, located by lake Langas and fringed by imposing mountains. It's an enjoyable trip: no one could fail to love the sight of those Swedish wooden houses scattered here in there throughout the countryside. The village, or rather, the mountain resort, can only accommodate 100 people.

Hikers coming from Kungsleden, as well as from Sarek national park, stop off at Saltoluokta. The resort has been organised so as to offer food supplies, refreshment, and even Sami art to visitors. The service really is first class, and the resort would be perfect for families. You can go fishing in the area, visit one of the largest waterfalls in Europe, or undertake numerous other activities during the day.

I'd certainly recommend this as a stop-off point on a family trip.
