Overall we loved Portugal and its many parts. We managed to see so many different aspects of the country in our trip, and particularly enjoyed the people, the food, the wine, the history, and the variety. This was ensured in the planning stage where Tiago had worked hard to ensure we had the variety of trip we required for our mixed age family. Favourite moments were many, and varied - most lunchtimes where Tiago helped us find local specialities; magical locations - hard to beat Marvao, Porto, the Duoro, hidden beaches, coves and restaurants; lovely people, helpful and understanding; Tiago - I honestly can't think of a better guide and friend for us while we were in Portugal. Without him and his guidance we wouldn't have experienced half of what we did, and would have no doubt wasted time on unnecessary trips.
Best parts:
Planning - being guided by someone with extensive knowledge of the country to make sure we had the right itinerary for us. Flexibility - Tiago understood us as a group and helped adapt the schedule as possible to suit us. Delivery - Tiago could not have done more to help us out, and make sure that we were happy and getting what we wanted from the trip. He was always available and willing to go the extra step to make sure we were always comfortable. Fun - While we saw and learnt so much about the country and its history, culture and food, we did this and also enjoyed everything we did, as Tiago was exactly the right personality for us.
Worst parts:
The 3 hour delay at the airport on the way out meant we had less time for our wonderful trip. A morning of rain on our third day

I had never been to Portugal and wanted to make sure we didn't miss anything. Nuno sent over many suggestions and made sure the trip was just what we wanted it to be. We saw a lot of Lisbon and also the surrounding areas- all of the tour guides, drivers and others we met were professional, knowledgable and friendly. Every experience from the cooking school to the sail around Lisbon harbor were incredible and we hated to leave!
Best parts:
We really loved it all and felt like we got a little taste of everything. Cromwell loved the dolphins and Bartlett loved the sailboat tour of the harbor. I loved the gardens at the Pena Palace and the treasure hunt (and so did the kids!) I loved how we had our own driver and mostly private tours- and they were all fantastic. Nuno and the whole ****** team were fantastic from beginning to end- helped suggest events based upon my likes and dislikes, met us during part of our stay and made sure to contact us to see that we had everything we needed during the stay. It could not have been a better trip!
Worst parts:
Really nothing...

Both Lisbon and Porto were magical cities with so much to see and do - and the food was an amazing experience. Our guide Tiago knows the country so well so it was a treat to have him show us and share with us his Portugal. Our overnight in the country side was charming and beautiful and our host could not have been more welcoming and inviting. We spent three days in Lisbon with side trips to Sintra and then drove north through Coimbra, Nazare, with a stop at the Shrine of Fatima, and up to Porto for three nights in that city exploring and experiencing that historic city, its charms, its food and its delicious Port wines.
Best parts:
Our guide Tiago - he was amazing - took us to all the most pertinent and interesting spots, was knowledgeable and fun, gave us great suggestions for restaurants - and it was a very comprehensive tour of Portugal including Lisbon, Porto and points in-between. All in all a fantastic experience with great sights, people and especially the food.

USA to Lisbon (3 days of touring). Lisbon to Porto day - 10 hour day trip from Lisbon, stopping at all the beautiful towns and sights along the way. Porto (2 days of touring, port tasting and food). Porto to Salamanca, Spain vial the Douro River Cruise (2 days) with a stop in Regua Douro Hotel. 7 wonderful days in Portugal. With a personal guide (Tiago) the entire time. Spain: Salamanca, Merida, Sevilla, Granada (Alhambra), Toledo and Madrid. 9 wonderful days in Spain that was a self driving tour. All of the Spanish hotels and sight visits were pre arranged by Tiago, our Portugal tour operator. Everything was perfectly coordinated and set up.
Best parts:
Our guide (Tiago) was Excellent. He was magical! He has an Great positive attitude, friendly person, pleasant disposition and incredibly knowledgeable about every location, tourist sight, and local food and beverage. Tiago's itinerary schedule was spot on. Wonderful timing of location visits and meal stops. Not crammed nor rushed but rather, a pleasant and enjoyable pace that allowed time to stop and enjoy those locations that we like the most. We Highly recommend Taigo and the Lisbon (Portugal) tour company. They arranged every hotel room, sight visit and recommended restaurants, and must see sights in Portugal and Spain.
Worst parts:
Having to leave Taigo in Portugal, when we went to Spain. We wanted him to join us there but he wasn't licensed in Spain. We missed him

2 Days in Porto, Train to Duoro for 1 night/wine tour/river cruise, 2-day road trip from Pinhao to Aveiro, Coimbra [ including overnight ], Batalha, Nazare, and Obidos, ending in Lisbon for 3 nights, then to Madeira for 3 nights.
Best parts:
The culture and history, and the warmth and friendliness of the Portuguese people we encountered ...... And our guide, Tiago, for the 2 days we used his services. Tiago worked with us to incorporate into a cohesive and time efficient plan our initial thoughts with his own suggestions for making the most of our 2-day road trip together. And he also assisted us with advice for the remainder of our vacation when we were on our own.
Worst parts:
I can't really think of anything we would have done differently, except perhaps allocate more time to our vacation.

WE started our vacation in Ponta Delgado, on Sao Miguel Island on July 18, visiting our daughter's husband's family, the Ferreira clan. Our first experience with the Portuguese life and country side in the Azores. We drove all over this island, as guests of the Ferreira family. Then we flew on July 31 to Lisbon. The greeting from Cesar and Sofia from Splendid Evasion, was wonderful. The Neya Eco Hotel was wonderful. The next day tour was wonderful, as we encountered many historical landmarks, including a trip to the Belem area, all in just one day, and walked many kilometers. We picked up our automatic rental vehicle with GPS, and headed to Coimbra on Aug. 2, with the most amazing tour of the Mira de Aire Caves, and a second stop to Tomar for the Knights Templar Castle and Convent of Christ. We missed the University of Coimbra, but our Tivoli Hotel was very good. WE then travelled from city to country, really old country, and visited the Schist Village with a walking tour in 40 to 45 degree heat, near Lousa. again the guide was amazing with his knowledge We swam in the pool and the mountain springs water at the bottom, which was a relief from the heat!! Then we drove to The Wine Estate of Quinta de Marrocos, which was explained earlier, a little disappointing. No way of cooling off, no beer, just wine, port or water. Poor meal planning, with a very limited meal options. (not recommended to others). The next day was in Pinhao, in extreme heat, with little to do and no cooling off option, (only a 1 hour boat ride) unless Port tasting, and being from Canada, we are committed to No Drinking and driving, for everyone's safety! This day was not fun, or productive at all, and not recommended. Aug. 5, and we drove to the International Douro Nature Park, which was a fantastic afternoon kayaking with Pedro Cordeiro in the Miranda do Douro Valley or canyon. In Genisio, we found a hidden gem in Casa De L Cura. We were concerned at first, then pleasantly surprised with what Pedro had found for us from our local agency. Every hotel we visited, had excellent breakfasts, not all had evening dinner menus, as one had to drive for half an hour to find an alternative restaurant. Thanks to Pedro and Sofia for their dinner suggestions, many were enjoyed. Then we came to Porto, and again, an excellent day on Aug. 6 and Aug 7, with an excellent tour host Deiogo, and we were visited by Pedro and Cesar, as well. WE have seen so many neighbourhoods and points of interest, with comfort, along our Portuguese tour, that most tourists would not have the opportunity, with our thanks to the local agency and Evaneos for this special concept of travel. Our day was completed with a tour of the Port Wine Cellars of Ferreira, and loved the bridge walk and touring in Porto. Yes, again our hotel was unique, small, yet efficient, and the staff were very courteous at HF Fenix. We had another day of many kilometers. The flight from Porto to Barcelona was the ONLY big complaint we have. The staff at both our Portugese and Spanish local agencies were exceptional!! Very Good at communication and customer care and courtesy, which will get our full recommendation to Trip Advisor. All bookings were easy to follow, and we had no headaches, except the driving portion in a foreign country, and even that, got easier with practice with our GPS and our short time in Portugal. All people we met in our journey were wonderful, from the agents, to the tour guides, to the hotel staff, and in addition the local Portuguese people were also kind in assisting us. We will inform and recommend to our friends, of this new way to travel, with Evaneos concept of vacations!!! God Bless All !! Peace, Joy, Hope and Love; Doug and Loraine Purdey Winnipeg, Canada
Best parts:
My wife and I are from Canada, and we loved the nature side of our tours; but we are also a couple that love human history and religious history. We found both in our tours of mainland Portugal, from Lisbon to Porto over 10 days. All our Tour Guides, selected by our local agent Pedro Zenha, explained hours of history to us, in every town and city we visited, and they took us on some amazing tours of caves at Mira De Aire, near Coimbra, and tours in the Schist Village near Lamego, and kayaking in the International Douro Nature Park. Even though we could not speak Portuguese, we found everyone in our travels from the travel agents, to our tour guides, to local citizens assisted us with kindness along our journey, with their knowledge of English to communicate with us. The history tours were excellent, and all tour guides explained so much information, with lots of patience, as we took many videos to share. We are so grateful to Pedro, Cesar and Sofia, of our local agency, for being excellent communicators with us entirely through our Evaneos experience!!! We will be telling our story to everyone we meet, in our travelling circle of friends about Portugal and Evasion Vacations!! Regards; Doug Purdey
Worst parts:
First, if someone is from Canada or US, strongly recommend vehicles for rental, with Automatic transmission. WE Did, and it was so wise!! The agency helped us with this change from standard trans. to automatic. Secondly, strongly encourage one's rental to have GPS! WE DID, and it was imperative to the success of our vacation. The roads and countryside and towns, are much easier to navigate with these additions. Without them, you will be in stress, for many hours and days!! Thanks to our agency for adding to their tour book, the GPS coordinates, allowing us to find our way, without too much stress. Also, we had an awkward reception and stay at Quinta de Marrocos, poor signage, very few staff, poor small showers, poor communication for meals, and insufficient means of cooling off, in the heat. We missed our Port/Wine tasting at Quinta de Marrocos and the next day the Rabelo Boat tour, or any boat tour was too short and could have been longer than the 1 hour tour to appreciate the Douro Valley, other than driving through it. Meals at this location, were too limited in selection. We had no desire to drive to Pinhao, for meals. Also, Evaneos staff, please inform everyone in your network, to CEASE doing business with Vueling Airlines, of Spain!! WE were one couple of 200 people, removed from our plane at 9:00 am, set to depart at 9:15 am, as the Pilot informed us that their management has assigned this plane for another application. All the passengers luggage had to be removed, and we were not informed from where to pick them up! WE were later informed at 12:30 to take a 2 hour bus ride to Vigo, Spain and at 2:30 pm. our bus arrived at Vigo. We were informed that the flight supposed to depart at 22:45, was further delayed to 12:30 pm.. We arrived in Barcelona at 2:30 AM, and our hotel in Barcelona at 3:00 AM!! We had informed our two travel agent companies, of our delay and frustration, and they shared our disgust for Vueling. Action to Cease doing any future business with them is strongly recommended. Ana, from our Spanish local agency, accommodated our booked tours, in Barcelona. It was compressed and tiring, but still fulfilling in the walking history tour of Barcelona. These two tour companies, communicated extremely well with us, and should be praised for their customer care. They could not change the airline problems with such short notice. Save your future clients from future headaches with Vueling. We have applied for fair compensation (x 2 passengers) from Vueling, for their failure to deliver our flights on time, as per their Customer Care Policy. Regards; Doug Purdey

I mentioned a lot above. We rented electric bikes from the hotel also to go around which gave us a nice freedom to get some sight-seeing in. It's quite hilly, so good exercise for the legs! All-in-all, we would definitely go back to Lisbon. Obrigada Joel! :)
Best parts:
We had such a wonderful time in Lisbon! The people were so welcoming, and helpful. Our agent Joel was perfect. Very attentive, checking in on us to see how our trip was going, and full of knowledge! We managed to have a relaxing holiday, as well as visiting and experiencing the culture all-in-one. We went to the Alfama district, which has beautiful character & architecture, to a quaint Portuguese restaurant, as recommended by our agent, to see a Fado music performance. Before it, we visited the São Jorge Castle, which had a fantastic view of the city! (beware of the trek up to it though) One of my favourite things was Belém Tower. It closes around 6pm, but we went when the sun was setting and it was just beautiful, then a nice walk along the seafront. Cascais was great also. We went to see the Boca do Inferno. I would also never have thought to visit an Aquarium, but Joel had recommended the Oceanário de Lisbon, and I was so happy we went. It would be great to visit for a family, but we enjoyed it as a couple too. Food-wise, I can be quite picky but we didn't have one bad meal. The food was so fresh. The specialities would be in seafood, but I managed to eat vegetarian also. Check out the Time Out Market also, if you are a foodie!

Best parts:
My Lisbon Holidays uses the tag line 'is like having a friend show you around' and we can attest that this couldn't be more true. Our amazing guide Tiago greeted me early in the morning after an overnight flight at the Lisbon Airport with a huge smile and a friendly handshake and my wife and I were off for an amazing 7 days travelling through Portugal.
Worst parts:
Despite his best efforts, Tiago could not keep it from raining occasionally though he did everything possible to keep us dry.

I was in Portugal for a business trip and given the timing around the 4th of July holiday in the states my husband and I decided to add on a short tour of Lisbon and Porto to my existing business trip. Given our condensed time we wanted to do a private tour so we could really immerse ourselves in the culture and see more sites than by using trains and public tour groups. We did walking tours of Lisbon and Porto and visited historical and cultural sites in Sintra, Aveiro, Cascais and Obidos. We did a Douro river cruise in Porto along with port and wine tours and tastings. We had the opportunity to visit a Fado house and show.
Best parts:
The best part of our trip by far was our guide, Tiago. He took great efforts to personalize our tour to meet our interests and time in Portugal. We enjoyed getting to learn more about Portugal from a local and really felt it enhanced our experience.
Worst parts:
Our trip was absolutely perfect. The worst part was having to leave and come back to work!

We landed in Lisbon (stayed a few days); rented a car and drove to Porto (stayed a few days), drove to the Douro Valley (stayed a few days) and stayed on a quinta, and then moved on to Evora (stayed a few days), and then to Crato (stayed one night), and then moved on to Lago (stayed four days),and then drove to Lisbon and went home. My favourite moment of the trip was in the Douro Valley. Thought the drive there was a little uncomfortable going up narrow winding roads but it was exciting. The red wine and olive oil was great. Visit the olive oil museum at the top of the Douro Valley. Port wines are also great but make sure you have a very heavy breakfast.
Best parts:
Portugual was great, and the people were friendly. My best part was Porto and the Douro Valley. We rented a car. We found the roads easy to travel however there were a few times, the hills were a touch uncomfortable. The port and wines tasting are a wonderful way to learn about the wine. We tried many different foods: pasteis de Nata, pasteis of bachalau, pombal, Francesinha, the bifana. Their sea bass was great. Many great foods to try.
Worst parts:
Paying for bread, butter and olive oil while waiting for the waiter to take our order.
Evaneos
Thanks Andy and Lil for your lovely feedback! Definitely makes me want to go there now to try the food! We are happy you enjoyed your trip and hope that Evaneos can be there for you again in the future! :)

We were looking to get to know a country we had never visited with a milder winter with easy access from the UK where we spent the weekend before. We wanted a mix of city and country and small and large towns. Nuno assured us that we could drive ourselves and he was absolutely correct. We loved the splendor of the churches and the rich history of the royalty and religious orders and the progression of the country politically. Everyone at the hotels and restaurants were so very helpful. Nuno provided us with a comprehensive and polished online and printed itinerary and kept in touch with us regularly. He arranged knowledgeable and friendly guides.
Best parts:
Nuno, from Pedro's agency, was a terrific agent. He worked hard to meet our budget and travel goals. All our connections went perfectly and our expectations were exceeded by him and the beautiful country. Traveling to Portugal in January was a great escape from the bitter cold of New England. We had sunny days for all but one half day.
Worst parts:
We didn't have the time to visit the Douro region or the Southern most regions.
