Langkawi island is by far the biggest disappointment of my trip to Malaysia. After all I had read about the place, I was expecting something really heavenly. Once there, however, I was quickly disillusioned. Cenang and Tangah may have magnificent beaches, but they are overcrowded and colonised by private beaches and jet-skis. On the other side of the island, several beaches, though magnificent, are off limits as reserved for luxury hotel guests. Read about this experience and my impressions on my blog .
Still, I did enjoy driving through the countryside in the island's centre where it is quiet. I strongly advise you to go and have a drink on the banks of the lagoon near Langkawi River at sunset. The sight is breathtaking. My favorite beach is Teluk Burau, just after Pantai Kok. To reach the island's heights, I took the impressive cable car that leads to Mount Mat Cincang, with its breathtaking panorama and a footbridge suspended in the air at a height of almost 2000 ft.
