Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, Toronto is a vast metropolis - but it is very well laid out. Thanks to its lakes and its parkland the city gives you an enormous sense of well being. What sticks in my memory is the eclectic nature of its different neighbourhoods, from the crazy streets of Chinatown through to the brightly coloured graffiti on the walls, the numerous different markets, and the immense, snow-covered beaches in winter and the large parks throughout the city.  Be careful to ensure that you choose the right season for your <a href="/canada/">stay in Canada,</a> In Toronto, the winters are very cold and the ice is deadly! In summer, you can bathe in the lake without any problems.

Toronto is Canada's largest city - a very likeable metropolis with some must-see sights.

After a fortnight spent deep within Ontario canoeing along the French River, I was pleased to be able to get back to the city for a while. Toronto centre does not extend over a very large area and can easily be explored on foot. The city is located very close to the USA and is laid out in a grid pattern. Within it there are both shopping malls and farmers' markets to be found. Nevertheless, I had some problems finding Camembert (eventually managing to get some – very heavily packaged – from a fine food store). Toronto's greatest asset is the diversity and friendliness of its people. My best memory from <a href="/canada/">my trip to this Canadian city</a> is, of course, the CN Tower. As someone who experiences vertigo just standing on a chair, I wasn't exactly about to show off on the glass floor located 447 metres above the ground. In fact I admit to taking just a single step "off the edge", though that has still left me with both a thrilling memory and a touch of pride!

It doesn't matter what season you visit Toronto, there is always something to do. I personally went in Winter. And I want to really thank my host for the great idea of open air skating at the Harbourfront Centre. It's the biggest outdoor skating rink in Canada. It's the perfect place for a family, or even a couple, to spend Saturday evening, as the place is lit up by the current DJ's music.       Another great trip is to take the ferry to Toronto Islands, which give you a very different view of Toronto. I recommend you do the crossing during the evening. At that time there is an unforgettable view over the illuminated city and it's the best place to see the Toronto Skyline. It's difficult to write such a short piece on Toronto because there are so many things to see. Off the top of my head, I suggest the Royal Ontario Museum's dinosaur exhibition; the various concert venues, such as Lee's Palace; the Beer Academy, where you will learn to make your own beer; the markets; etc. So it's up to you to go there right now <a href="/canada/">and explore Ontario's metropolis. </a>

Toronto, the biggest city in Canada, is very cosmopolitan and coloured by its inhabitants' different origins, which gives it a unique charm!
