Île aux Cerfs is the epitome of the classic Mauritian destination. Palm trees, white sand, generally crystal-clear turquoise waters and brightly multicoloured fish: everything is in place to ensure you can fully relax and enjoy yourself in the warm waters around the village of Trou d’ Eau Douce. Despite the fact that nobody lives on the island, it has a range of water-based activities available as well as various restaurants and an 18-hole golf course.
Ubiquitously present on tourist brochures, Île aux Cerfs is an iconic, must-see destination, which inevitably makes it just a bit too busy for my tastes. That said, who are we to say no to the easy pleasures of a picture-postcard island like this?
During your stay in Mauritius, give in to the temptation of a day spent simply taking things easy and doing not much of anything on an island just five minutes from the coast and where the main activity is sunbathing and trying to achieve the perfect tan.
