The Mirgvella pass is one of Tusheti's strategic axes: through it, you can go by foot, on horseback or by jeep between the three mini regions of  Pirikiti, Gometsari and Tchaghma. From Omalo, it's the main route of access into Pirikiti.

During my first trek in Tusheti, I took the Mirgvella pass (2,263 m), through which the main road from Omalo to Dartlo goes; that is to say, the Pirikiti valley. It's the most accessible pass in the interior of the country and allows people to travel between the different valleys.
As for me, I was coming back from Gométsari, having spent time trekking on long, solitary routes through alpine pastures and sparse pine forests. Arriving at the pass, I saw a small site full of contentment and life: the Mirgvella guesthouse, at the bottom of the pass, with its wooden chalets, formed a lovely divider between the different parts of the region.
I particularly enjoyed the prairie of the Mirgvella pass, surrounded by pine forest, the perfect place to take a break. I stopped there and ate the snack my hosts at Gogrulta in Gometsari had given me, admiring the view over Omalo and the Pirikiti valley, which opened up in front of me.
