Debre Zeit is easy to reach from the capital, whether you're travelling by car or public transport. The latter will give you the chance to hop on one of the famous blue and white mini-buses and listen to local radio stations whilst chatting to the locals.
This is an ideal destination if you only have a weekend to spare. You can easily get to the lakes on foot, by tuk-tuk or horse-drawn carriage (it can be difficult to find one). I recommend you settle down on a restaurant terrace to admire the scenery and animals, whilst breathing in the calm of the place.
Each lake looks like a crater with different landscapes. The view of the surrounding mountains varies according to which side you're on. It's not always possible to circle around the lakes, but most of the time you'll find a track beaten by local fishermen or herdsmen.
