I found a real favourite in Cape Reinga, this stunning isolated cape at the extreme northern tip of North Island. It can be very windy, so plan on wearing a windbreaker and warm clothes!  If you're a hiking enthusiast, don't miss the Cape Reinga Coastal Walkway. I fell in love with this 7-8 hour long coastal hike that starts at Cape Reinga and leads to Twilight Beach. I was blown away by the diversity of landscapes I saw during this walk: large white sand beaches, golden sand dunes, pink sand, green meadows and of course the sea in the background. One of my favourite hikes in all of New Zealand. There's only one downside: the last part goes along the road and seems quite long after a good day of walking, so feel free to thumb a lift to the starting point, and avoid this portion of the road at the end of the hike!
