Situated at 2150 metres of altitude, the village of Chomrong is a frequent stopover for trekkers on the road to the Annapurna sanctuary. There are many lodges and guest houses on the mountain side that offer board and lodging. But to get there you can expect a good climb... I stopped counting the steps when got into 4-digit numbers! What's more, it's just as hard in the other direction.
But what a reward to find a room with panoramic windows all round! In the morning, the view on the Annapurnas and Machapuchare is spectacular. With a view like that, even the stairs of Chomrong won't put you off!
Because I set out on my trek in the middle of August, I was treated to the delights of the monsoon. Numerous hungry leeches await you at each step you climb... After Chomrong, you are more or less free of them. Are you dreaming of a sporting adventure and stories to tell? This experience will leave you with an unforgettable memory of your <a href="/nepal/">stay in Nepal</a>.
I should add that I visited Nepal before the earthquake of 2015, so it is possible that the places have changed a lot since then.

Once you leave Jinudanda, a steep climb leads to Chomrong, the last village on the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek - a must during a holiday in Nepal. From there onwards, hikers can sleep in lodges along the trail that leads to the base camp. The view from Chomrong is stunning, where, to the north, you'll see Annapurna and Machapuchare towering over the countryside. The village is surrounded by huge rhododendrons which, if you're there at the right time, burst with bright red blooms. The village's houses surround a giant staircase that leads down to a river, where you'll find a bridge next to a slope that heads towards Sinuwa. My legs still remember climbing up the steps upon my return. It's a long flight of stairs and what's more the steps are all different sizes...
