At an altitude of 2,900 metres, Poon Hill has a spectacular, 360° panoramic view. I decided to go there for the sunset and it was quite magical, breathtaking. It made me forget how hard I found it to climb with everybody overtaking me. You arrive on the site bit by bit and the countryside gradually becomes more beautiful. I stayed there at least two hours, just enjoying the majestic mountains that surrounded me. The trek up Poon Hill is one of the most popular that I did during my <a href="/nepal/">trip to Nepal</a>, and so it's very touristy. You are anything but alone and I had to be very patient before I could take some photos that didn't have strangers in them. The other point which was a bit disappointing was that I didn't feel close enough to the mountains. The view is incredible but you are still not in the heart of the Annapurnas.

Getting up at 4:30 a.m. in the biting cold with all the aches from the previous days of walking is not easy, I'll admit. But the reward is worth all of the effort you put into getting out of bed!
Like all the hikers at the stopping place in Ghorepani, I got up before dawn, wrapped up warmly in all my clothes and put my headlamp on in order to reach Poon Hill after a 40-minute climb in single file on a little path.
Situated at 3,210 metres above sea level, the viewpoint allows you to admire the entire Annapurna mountain range. More than ever before, I felt so small in the face of the mountain's vastness. The rays of sun arrived and slowly warmed me up but, even so, I advise that you dress very warmly: despite all my layers, I felt the cold penetrate them very quickly and the heating pads weren't excessive at all!
