The best time to travel in Egypt
Though there are huge differences in the climate between the various regions in Egypt, generally speaking we'd advise you to avoid travelling there in the summer when it's stiflingly hot...unless you're only headed there to laze around on the beach!
At a glance
The best time of year to visit Egypt is from March to May and September to November, but there are significant changes in climate between the different regions. It's best to avoid Cairo in summer, as the heat there is unbearable, and added to it is the dust, pollution and noise there. On the other hand, then is the best time of year to enjoy the Sinai beaches and the coast of the Red Sea.
The Nile Delta
The best time of year to visit the Nile delta is in mid-season: opt to go between March and May or September to November. During winter, the days are very overcast and the nights are very cold, while in summer, the heat is intense. The Nile Delta is Egypt's smallest but also most densely populated region: here, you'll discover its capital, Cairo, as well as the famous Alexandria.
The Nile Valley
The best season to discover the Nile Valley is winter, as the heat is unbearable during the summer. In Assoun, for example, temperatures reach up to 40 degrees, and it it hardly ever rains. So opt for the period between November and March when visiting this region. Don't forget to visit the famous Luxor Temple, as well as the Horus Temple at Edfu and the magnificent Lake Nasser.
The Desert
The optimal time to discover the Egyptian desert is in mid-season. Discover the superb oasis and the ruins of Roman fortresses with breathtaking scenery as a backdrop, thus far unscathed by mass tourism. Here, you'll see some of the largest dunes in the world.
The Red Sea
The best time to head to the coast of the Red Sea is between May and September. Enjoy the famous coastal beaches in very good weather, and simply spend your day doing nothing, relaxing by the turquoise water. You could even start learning to dive in such an idyllic setting.
Sinai
Travel between March and May or between September and November to discover Sinai. Between Africa and Asia, you'll discover a unique region composed of mountains and arid plains. Admire the brilliant colours of the surrounding scenery and try out scuba diving in the beautiful depths of the ocean.
A trip filled with sports and activities
At the top of our list of recommendations is without doubt a trek on the back of a dromedary through the desert: you can't pass up this opportunity during your stay in Egypt. You can also learn to scuba dive - the Red Sea is the ideal place for this activity. And why not embark on a cruise down the Nile? Sure, it's a bit of a cliché, but you'll make gain some incredible memories. Choose to travel mid-season, and in the summer to the coast of the Red Sea.
A trip to admire the nature and wildlife
Egypt is the country of the lotus, papyrus, palm trees and mangroves. For a while now, the country has struggled to protect its environment, threatened by the development of mass tourism, particularly on the coast of the Red Sea and at Sinai. You'll come across many camels in Egypt, of course, but also donkeys, gazelles and many different bird species. Watch out for scorpions, snakes and even crocodiles near Aswan! Explore Egypt's nature and wildlife all year round except summer, when the heat is stifling.
