Bastakiya is a lovely quarter close to the old town of Dubai which dates from the end of the 19th century, when it was founded by Iranian merchants. It was completely renovated in 2005.

My suggestion:
You need to bring along a hat and sun cream, it can get very hot in the little shaded streets of this quarter.
My review

Bastakiya is a lovely, traditional quarter to visit during a stop over in Dubai . It is a far cry from the immoderation and extravagance of the town centre and it is nice to see something else in this very futuristic city.

There are many boutiques, cafes and museums to explore. Unfortunately, the neighbourhood was completely rebuilt, making its inhabitants flee, taking along with them its remaining authenticity. The quarter can sometimes give the impression of a ghost town, especially on a hot day. For a refreshing and artistic break, I cannot but recommend XVA gallery, which serves as a restaurant, cafe, hotel and art gallery. A good address to go to during your visit.

While you are around here, do not forget to go and see the rest of the old town, in particular the souks.
