Agia Irini Gorge is a must-see while on holiday in Crete. With its lush vegetation consisting of maple, pine, cypress, oak and beautiful olive trees, the place is very pleasant. You'll find nice fellow travellers on the hiking trail.
The walk is easy and quiet: but you'll still need good walking shoes, water and a hat; perhaps even a sleeping bag if you want to sleep under the stars in the open air!
I'd advise visiting the gorges in the morning as it's the best time of day to enjoy the area's tranquillity. Head to the village of Irini, that's where the hike usually starts. The village is easily accessible. There you'll be able to discover the Agia Irini Gorge, a spectacular natural panorama over caves and canyons, surrounded by wild flowers!
