Sandomierz, which lies in the southeast quarter of the country, is a pleasant and peaceful little town with a population of around 20,000 and whose historic role in Poland's history is not difficult to discern. Despite its peaceful appearance today, Sandomierz was for centuries one of the country's most important towns, a fact evident in the relatively large scale of its historic centre, which consists of a series of beautiful Baroque houses located around a central square together with several adjacent streets.
Sandomierz is a very enjoyable place to visit and offers a welcome place to stop off at in the region, especially given that it lies away from the main tourist circuits, which meant I got the impression that I was the only visitor or tourist in the place and had the opportunity to take advantage of the warm, friendly welcome offered by the local people. Overall, this is an enjoyable place to visit and in which to spend some time when staying in Poland.
