I discovered Datça during a festival in honour of the Turkish poet Çan Yücel, which is held every August. Lots of poets and muscians get together to take part in the event.
Datça is wonderful. The view over the Mediterranean Sea is stunning and the people both open and welcoming. What really blew me away was the wine. I've tasted Turkish wine, but the vintages they sell in Datça - or indeed anywhere in the Mugla province - are the best in Turkey. The wine, which is often quite expensive, can be tasted or bought directly from the vineyards. The olive oil is also delicious, but is overpriced.
In the evening you can eat fresh fish, served in little restaurants that overlook the sea.
If you have the time, I recommend you visit the ancient town of Knidos, with its temple, amphitheatre and beach.
