I went there outside of the surf season and the place was deserted. Not a single tourist, incredible! The inhabitants were surprised to see us arrive and look for a place to stay. Through word of mouth we ended up finding someone who would open their bungalow for us, but for a moment I thought we were going to have to sleep on the beach! Not exactly the worst option. The stretch of sand is very long and the beach is immense.
The bad point is that it's quite dirty. Plastic rubbish swept in by the sea is everywhere. I don't know if it's like that during high season or if they clean then. There's also the chance to do trips organised by hotels, on the sea or towards the inland to see elephants. For holidays in Sri Lanka, even if you don't surf Arugam Bay can be a wise choice, away from everything.
