A popular destination on this part of the Vietnamese coastline, Phan Thiet is known for its lighthouse and its red sand dunes.

My suggestion:
If, like me, you prefer to go to Long Hai (less touristic) and hire a scooter to see the lighthouse, plan to wear long sleeves and take water and suncream! And a full day too!
My review

I did not stay in the town of Phan Thiet, I went by scooter for the day to admire a lighthouse on the pier. During your stay in Vietnam, you will often hear about travelling by motorbike!

The town itself seems very touristy, I came across buses full of travellers eager to go sunbathing. That said, if this is not your primary goal, you can profit from what the town has to offer in the surrounding area.
A few minutes outside the town you will find a diverse countryside, rich in farmland, varied herds, adorable and smiling locals!

You will also love the red sand dunes close to Phan Thiet, which give the illusion that you are entering a desert! I only saw them through the windows of the bus, I regretted not being able to go! It was already fabulous just passing by, so, I know you will absolutely love them!

Allow a few days, time to rest, then explore the surrounding area which is teeming with magnificent landscapes and promises wonderful encounters. The journey from Long Hai along the coast is also very beautiful.
