Wildlife, geothermal features and alien-like landscape

Yellowstone National Park is a nearly 3,500-sq.-mile wilderness recreation area atop a still active super volcano.

Yellowstone features dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs and gushing geysers, including its most famous, Old Faithful. It's also home to hundreds of animal species, including bears, wolves, bison, elk and antelope.

Today along with the in-car Gaper Guide GPS audio tour, the park will be yours to discover.  Prepare for one of the most breathtaking days of this epic journey.

Day 6: Montana on the Horizon

Today you’ll make your way to the northernmost region of the park to visit Mammoth Hot Springs.

Mammoth Hot Springs are a must-see feature of Yellowstone National Park in part because they’re so different from other thermal areas in the area. The fast-growing limestone formations have been described as a cave turned inside out.

From there you’ll be exiting the park through the rusticated triumphal Roosevelt Arch that has stood welcoming and sending off visitors since 1903.

Take in Big Sky Country as you make your way for a one-night stay in Montana’s biggest city, Billings.

Day 7: Sitting Bull & Pictograph State Park

Start the morning with a visit to Pictograph State Park. This is a place to contemplate the origins of human habitation in Montana with proof of life dating back over 2,000 years!

From there you’ll make your way to Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. The famous battle, also known as Custer’s Last Stand, took place between federal troops led by Custer and Northern Plains Indians led by Sitting Bull.

The result was one of the greatest upsets in American military history. Then it’s off to Gillette for an evening of relaxation. You’ll need that energy for the last three days!

Day 8: Devils Tower & Deadwood

Wake up and get ready for a close encounter with America’s first National Monument, Devils Tower.  Steven Spielberg made this conic monolith famous around the world on film.

Enjoy a moderate trek around the base and then it’s off to venture into the Black Hills!

Stop in Sturgis, home to the world’s largest annual motorcycle gathering. Experience the glory days of the gold rush in the city of Deadwood.  Make a stop in downtown Rapid City before arriving at your accommodation in the old mining boomtown of Keystone.

Tonight, make your way down the road for a lighting ceremony at America’s shrine to democracy.

South Dakota

Day 9: Mount Rushmore

It’s the last full day of what has been an incredible journey.

Start the day with a monumental helicopter ride and soar above Black Elk Peak, the tallest point East of the Rocky Mountains.

Explore the granite pillar formations, Sylvan lake and experience a flyby of Mt. Rushmore!

Familiarize yourself with local Native American Culture and lore at Crazy Horse Memorial. This complex is a work in progress that has been going on for over seventy years!

The rest of the day you can choose from a vast selection of activities: See the largest heard of American Bison in North America at Custer State Park or venture into the deep and twisting cave systems at Wind Cave National Park.
