Sharjah is in the north east of the country, on the Persian Gulf. I recommend it for travellers who are a bit adventurous, who prefer being on their own or who love culture.

My suggestion:
Sharjah is only 30 minutes by car from Dubai. It's best to go there between October and May to avoid the high summer temperatures.
My review

Despite being very close to Dubai, Sharjah is still a traditional town much loved by the locals. There are lots of mosques to visit. I particularly remember the typically Middle-Eastern arhcitecture of Al Noor, beside the sea.

If you love history, Sharjah has several museums, of which Sharjah Museum of Archaeology and Sharjah Heritage Museum are essential for learning about the history of the country and the state of Sharjah.

If you want to go shopping, to make a change from the ultra fashionable malls in Dubai, I enjoyed the Blue Souk, which is quite modern but in a traditional way. You can go there for the shops but also for the architecture of the building. My final piece of advice is to bargain, whether it's for rugs, jewellery or other souvenirs. It's a part of the local tradition.
