Inland of the floodplain, a narrow belt of acacia woodland is the favoured haunt of Manyara’s legendary tree-climbing lions. Before dark you shall drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
On the following day you will explore further into this enchanting national park. Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably hope to observe 100 of these in one day.
We will begin this day with an early morning drive to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge. This drive takes between 3 and 4 hours. It is an archaeological site located in the eastern Serengeti plains, where early human fossils were first discovered. Olduvai Gorge offers a brief glimpse into the origins of mankind. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, elands and Oryx gather until the onset of the rain, when they migrate again to good grazing areas. Following your game drive you will make your way to the hotel to relax in the fading light while you await your dinner and a good night’s rest.
