This itinerary has been crafted by our Local Agency with one idea in mind: to inspire you. Every element can be adapted to your needs and your interests, from duration to accommodation and activities.

Day 1: Colombo - Arrival & Welcome

Upon arrival, you'll be met by a representative from our local travel agency and transferred to your hotel. Depending on the time of your flight, you and your family will have the whole day to relax and acclimatise to the weather or explore your surroundings on foot.

Day 2: Sigiriya - The Cultural Triangle

Today, you'll start the day with a relaxed breakfast before setting off towards the 'cultural triangle' of Sri Lanka: Sigiriya. En-route, you and your family will get to experience a traditional Sri Lankan rural village situated in lush green paddy fields. There, you'll be served tea and a solid sugary sweet called 'jaggery.' To finish the morning, you'll be taken on a catamaran ride through the beautiful Haborana Lake. 

In the afternoon, it's on to Sigiriya Rock, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is regarded by many as an architectural wonder of the world. The site is comprised of a 370m granite rock with a magnificent palace that was built around 475 AD. Once you reach the plateau, you'll be treated to a great view of the surrounding area.

Day 3: Polonnaruwa - Ancient City Tour & Elephant Safari

After breakfast, you and your family will be transferred to Polonnaruwa, one of Sri Lanka's ancient cities. The highlight of Polonnaruwa is the Gal Vihara Rock Sculptures ,where an unknown 12th century sculptor carved three giant figures of the Buddha plus a chapel into a granite cliff-face.

Lunch will be served at the Priyamali Gedera, a family-run restaurant where you will find the most authentic style of Sri Lankan cooking with some delicious and fresh ingredients. After lunch overlooking the beautiful rice paddy fields of this area, you'll head on to your jeep safari in  Minneriya National Park, famous for its large herds of Asian elephants.

Day 4: Kandy - Dambulla Cave Temple

Today, you'll set off towards the last ancient kingdom of Kandy. En-route, you'll visit the mysterious site of Dambulla Cave Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most famous cave complex of magnificent Buddha images and rock paintings.

Upon arrival, you'll have some time to freshen up at one of the many tea shops and enjoy a fresh cup of tea with a slice of butter cake. In the evening, you and your family will visit the world-famous Kandy Temple, also known as "The Temple of the Tooth", where the tooth relic of the Buddha lies. The temple constitutes the premier Buddhist Institution of Sri Lanka and remains the cynosure of the Buddhist world today.

Day 5: Kelani River - White Water Rafting

The water calls... Today, you'll set off towards Kithulgala, famous for various water activities on the Kelani River. You and your family can choose between a guided white-water rafting, abseiling, canyoning or canoeing trip.

Day 6: Nuwara Eliya - Hill Country

Today, your journey continues to the hill country, Nuwara Eliya, also known as "little England." This is because of the main quaint little cottages that can be found scattered all across the city. 

In the afternoon, head off on a tour to explore the city and spend your afternoon relaxing at your own leisure. Embark on a boat ride on Lake Gregory, or just sit back and enjoy the scenery and tranquil atmosphere surrounding you.

Day 7: Horton Plains - Hiking At 'World's End'

A little change for today, you'll take your breakfast with you and enjoy it on your way to the misty grassland plateau of Horton Plains, a national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. It sits at an elevation of more than 2,000m (6,500 ft) about 20km from Nuwara Eliya.

There is a strange and mysterious silence about the place, and it boasts excellent walking trails. The most amazing feature of Horton Plains is World’s End, where the southern part of the plains drops almost vertically for 700m. The ideal time to view this site is at dawn, when the mountains are free of mist and the sun is just rising.

Day 8: Train Journey to Ella

Today you will get on board the train heading to Ella. This train ride is considered by many to be the most beautiful in the world, so have your cameras ready!

Day 9: Ella - Little Adams Peak & Tea Plantation

Saddle up for another guided hike through the stunning scenery of Ella. You'll pass the Nine Arches Bridge, and Little Adams Peak, before arriving at a local tea plantation where you and your family can sample some world-famous Sri Lankan tea.

Day 10: Heading South: Bundala National Park

Today, you'll continue south towards Yala with your private guide. On the way, you'll get the opportunity to stretch your legs at the beautiful Ravana Waterfalls and Buduruwagala Temple. Upon arrival in Yala, you'll then be treated to an afternoon jeep safari in Bundala National Park, famous for its spotted deer, monkeys, crocodiles, elephants, and much more.

Day 11: South Coast - Yala National Park

Today you'll have an early start for your morning jeep safari in Yala national park. The park is known for its impressive herds of elephants, but more so for its leopard population. Once you and your family have filled your camera with some beautiful pictures of the park, you'll continue the journey towards your beach hotel.

Day 12: Ahangama - Free Day On The Beach

Time to relax: today, you'll get to stretch out on one of Sri Lanka's most exquisite and family-friendly beaches. Whether you want to be active or sit back and enjoy the sunshine is completely up to you. Our top recommendations for families are as follows:

• Sea turtle conservation project at Koggala
• A family surf lesson, or snorkelling or diving trip
​• A day trip to the nearby Mirissa Beach where you can go whale-watching


Day 13: Galle - Cycling Tour

After breakfast, you'll all set off on a cycling tour to explore Galle. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Galle is one of the best-preserved Dutch fortresses in Sri Lanka. Enjoy the picturesque fortress with its narrow cobble-stoned streets, little boutiques, art galleries, cafes, and restaurants. It’s the perfect place to do some souvenir shopping and soak up the ambiance and history of 500 years of colonialism that has influenced the development and the history of this town.

Day 14: Ahangama - Free Day On The Beach
