You will be welcomed by our representative who will take you to the capital city of Colombo (30 km /1 hour) to spend the first night in Sri Lanka. Relax in the beautiful atmosphere of the hotel of your choice, or explore the city on your own.
After an early breakfast you will leave Colombo to travel to the Sinharaja Forest Reserve. The distance is approximately 130 km and it will take around 4 hours to reach this UNESCO Word Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. On arrival the local guide will decide if the weather, daylight and time are good enough to make a trek through the forest in the afternoon or if it is better to wait until the next morning. This comparatively small area is a treasure trove when it comes to unique and mostly endemic species of fauna and flora of Sri Lanka.
There are elephants and up to 15 leopards in the park but these two species are rarely seen. The main focus when trekking through the rainforest are the insects, amphibians, reptiles birds and small mammals. Most species found here are protected and unique to the island. You will spend the night in a hotel outside the park and you can enjoy the quiet and relaxing atmosphere of the region.
Udawalawe National Park, one of best known and visited garden of Sri Lanka, is today’s main attraction. After breakfast you will drive towards Udawalawe. The drive will take you through some beautiful luscious greens. Once you arrive at your hotel you can freshen up and change into your safari gear as you embark on an afternoon safari of the park (around 02:30pm). The park is known for its large herds of elephants that are often brought her out of captivity or have been injured. Of course you will find various other animals in the park, such as deer, crocodiles and large variety of birds. Once you have filled your camera with some beautiful pictures of the park you can relax the rest of the day.
After an early breakfast you will visit the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home that is known to take in orphaned, injured or once captured and worker elephants. Afterwards you will continue towards the hill country of Sri Lanka, Ella. On the way you will visit the famous Buduruwagala Temple that experts believe was carved into the rocks during the 9th or 10th Century AD. Afterwards you will travel to the Ravana waterfalls, a beautiful sight with a sad but interesting historical background. The Ravana Ella (Ravana Falls) has been named after the brawny daemon, Ravana. According to the epic, it is said that after kidnapping Sita, Ravana, the king of Sri Lanka had hidden her at the caves behind this waterfall. You will then continue towards Ella. Once you reach the hotel you will have time to relax for the rest of the day.
Today you can enjoy a late breakfast before you start exploring the surrounding area of Ella. First you will go to small tracking path of Little Adam's Peak, the journey will take you about 30 min but once you reach the top it will definitely be worth it as you will be presented with breathtaking views of an endless valley, tea plantations and waterfalls. Once you return back down you can enjoy a delicious lunch in town (Tip: try the famous Cafe Chill that looks more like a beach bar than a restaurant in the mountains). Once you have refueled you will visit the famous 9 arches bridge, which is one of the most iconic bridges in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankans also call this bridge “Ahas namaye palama” (Nine skies bridge) because of its height. Your last stop will be at a beautiful tea plantation where you will get to learn a bit about how the famous Sri Lanka tea is made. Afterwards you will return back to your hotel.
Today you will enjoy a delicious breakfast before heading by train to Nuwara Eliya also known as “Little England”. The ride to Nuwara Eliya will take you through some beautiful greenery and tea plantations as far as the eye can see. Scattered and hidden within the tea plantations and greenery you will sometimes as well spot some small waterfalls cascading down the beautiful scenery. Once you reach Nuwara Eliya you will continue towards the action packed Kithulgala, where you can take time to relax.
Today is a day full of action and adventure. You will go on 2 exciting trips, one where you will race down the Kelani river on a white water rafting trip. This is a lot of fun! You will get to learn how to handle the rapids as you rush down the river. After finishing your first trip you will return back to camp and can refuel with a delicious lunch before heading to adventure number 2 that is great for young and old alike. You will go on a canyoning trip where you will slide and jump down the canyons surrounding the Kithulgala area and jump into the different pools. Make sure to bring sport shoes or if you have special water proof shoes. You will return back to camp where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful nature, or walk and discover the surrounding area.
Today you can just enjoy the morning as you see fit. Dig into a delicious breakfast and just take the morning easy. Afterwards you will continue your drive towards the last ancient city of Sri Lanka, Kandy. Once you arrive at the hotel you can freshen up before discovering what this city has to offer. In the afternoon you will visit the city, the renowned Kandy Temple, also known as "The Temple of the Tooth", where the tooth relic of the Buddha lies. Once you have soaked in the calming atmosphere of the temple you will be taken to the lively sounds of the traditional Kandyan dance performance.
After breakfast you will visit the famous Peradeniya Botanical Garden where you will take a stroll through the beautiful greenery and can learn a bit about the different plant species that are found across the island of Sri Lanka. This is a great way to start your morning. From here you will continue your journey towards the cultural triangle of this small island. On the way you can stop at one of the many spice gardens where you will get to learn a bit about the different spices found on the island and how they are used. Furthermore, you can visit a batik factory where you will get to see how the famous batik fabric of Sri Lanka is made. Afterwards you will continue towards Sigiriya. On route you will visit the well-known Dambulla Cave Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most famous cave complex of magnificent Buddha images and rock paintings of vivid colours and shapes.
After an early breakfast you will travel to the one of Sri Lanka's ancient cities, Polonnaruwa. It was the second capital of Sri Lanka, was protected by six kilometers of encircling walls. The highlight of Polonnaruwa is the Gal Vihara Rock Sculptures where an unknown 12th century sculptor carved a chapel and three giant figures of the Buddha into a granite cliff-face. Lunch will be served at the Priyamali Gedera Restaurant on the shores of the giant Parakrama Samudraya, the Island's largest manmade reservoir which was built around the 10th century.
After lunch you will return to Sigiriya. Late afternoon you will visit the Sigiriya Rock, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is regarded by many as an architectural wonder of the world. A 370-meter granite rock with a magnificent palace that was built around 475 AD. Once you reach the plateau you are faced with breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
Today you will head to your booked beach hotel where you can lay back and enjoy the beach and go through all the pictures that you have taken thus far on your trip of Sri Lanka.
Today you can enjoy the day as you please. Start with a delicious breakfast and then a relaxing swim in the Indian Ocean. Let your body relax and take in the Sri Lankan sun.
Through the hotel you can always look to book any excursion to the near by areas in case you would like to discover a bit of the Eastern Coast.
Today is your last full day at the beach. Take in as much sun as possible before heading back to your home country.
After breakfast you can take one more dip before being picked up by your driver and heading towards the Western part of Sri Lanka, Negombo. The drive will take you about 6 hours so just relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery as you will pass some already known cultural sights and of course the beautiful nature of Sri Lanka. Once you arrive in Negombo you can just relax and if you wish do some last minute shopping for family and friends back home.
Goodbye! Today is your last day in Sri Lanka. After breakfast you will drive to the airport. Please note that this can change based on your departure time.
