Day 1: Welcome To Sri Lanka!

Welcome to Sri Lanka! You will be welcomed by a representative who will take you to the capital city of Colombo (30 km /1 hour) to spend the first night in Sri Lanka. Relax in the beautiful atmosphere of the hotel of your choice, or explore the city on your own.

Day 2: Sinharaja Forest Reserve Discovery

After an early breakfast you will leave Colombo to the Sinharaja Forest Reserve. The distance is approximately 130 km and it will around 4 hours to reach this UNESCO Word Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. On arrival the local guide will decided if the weather, daylight and time are good enough to make a trek through the forest in the afternoon or if it is better to wait until the next morning. The total surface of the forest is around 90 sq km this comparatively small area is a treasure trove when it comes to unique and mostly endemic species of fauna and flora of Sri Lanka.

There some elephants and up to 15 leopards in the park but these two species are rarely seen. The main focus when trekking through the rainforest are the insects, amphibians, reptiles birds and small mammals. Most species found here are protected and unique to the island. A trekking trip through this hilly virgin rainforest is a unique experience. You will spend the night in a hotel outside the park and you can enjoy the quiet and relaxing atmosphere of the region.

Day 3: Experience the Famous National Park of Yala

Yala National Park, the best known and most visited park of Sri Lanka is today’s main attraction. After breakfast you will drive south in order to reach Yala garden by lunch time. On the way you will experience an amazing change of scenery where the lush tropical greenery of the wet zone rainforests gives way to the much dryer and arid landscape of the dry zone. The deep south of Sri Lanka is quite the opposite of what you have experienced at Sinharaja. However, the densest population of local wildlife is found in this part Sri Lanka. Yala, Bundala and Udawalawe are just a few of the many national parks of this region. The jeep safari through Yala will take place in the afternoon, when the possibility to see elephants, leopards, sloth bears , the most exotic inhabitants of the park, will be found coming to the watering holes.

Day 4: Heading to Mirissa

After breakfast you will leave towards the famous surfing and whale watching village of Mirissa. To get to Mirissa you have to travel along the southern coastline passing many well known villages along the way. The first stop of the day after leaving Yala will be the sacred pilgrimage site of “ Kataragama”. This temple is dedicated to God Skanda, the guardian of the southern province and is a very important place of worship for three of the main religions existing on the island:  Buddhists, Christians and Hindus often travel to Kataragama to pray and perform religious services at Kataragama. It offers you an opportunity to observe and understand the diverse cultures of the religions existing in the island. After this visit, you will continue to drive to Mirissa. Today this region is mostly known for surfing, diving and kite surfing that takes place along the coast between Matara and Galle. You will stay in one of the many beach resorts along the coast.

Day 5: Whale Watching day

Having explored Sri Lanka’s wildlife on terra firma, today you will explore another fascinating aspect of Sri Lanka’s wildlife by joining a whale watching tour in Mirissa. Enjoy the boat ride and the chase for the best spots along the migration route of the whales, passing by the Sri Lankan coast every winter. In case you are lucky you can see up to 7 different species of whales and 5 different species of dolphins. Afterwards you will visit one of the local “ turtle farms” that help protect the 5 species of sea turtles found in Sri Lanka by helping the newly hatched baby turtles to reach the sea without getting caught by birds or other predators lurking on the beach. Galle: Yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the best preserved Dutch fortresses in Sri Lanka.

This will be the last stop on your tour. Enjoy leisurely a stroll through the picturesque fortress with its narrow cobblestoned streets, little boutiques, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. It’s the perfect place to do some souvenir shopping and soak up the ambience of colonial architecture and observe the history of 500 years of colonialism that has influenced the development and the history of this town. After this visit the tour will continue towards your beach hotel.

Day 6: Day at Leisure at the Beach

Today you will head to your booked beach hotel where you can lay back and enjoy the beach and go through all the pictures that you have taken thus far on your trip of Sri Lanka.

Day 7: Relax, Take a Little Pleasure!

Today you can enjoy the day as you please. Start with a delicious breakfast and then a relaxing swim in the Indian Ocean. Let your body relax and take in the Sri Lankan sun.

Day 8: Tuk Tuk nice tour

It is very easy to discover on your own, the surrounding area of your beach hotel. You can either explore by foot or take a typical Sri Lankan “tuk-tuk” and move around as the locals do. Most of the tuk-tuk drivers around the beach hotel areas speak English so communication will not be an issue.

Day 9: Here We Go For More Memories!

Today is your last full day at the beach. Take in as much sun as possible before heading back to your home country. Perhaps fit in a last minute shopping spree to buy some souvenirs for back home and take those last pictures to commemorate your holiday in Sri Lanka.

Day 10: Last Day Before Departure

Goodbye! Today is your last day in Sri Lanka. After breakfast you will drive to the airport. Please note that this can change based on your departure time (check-out from hotel is around.
