This 10-day family holiday offers a rich and varied range of activities, excursions and things to do all within a relatively short distance of each other which cuts down on travel time. Opportunities to immerse in local culture staying in Ger, eat and learn cooking local Mongolian food, experience adventures like climbing, hiking and riding (Mongolian pony horse and 2 humped Bactrian camel), enjoy wilderness and see only remaining wild horses in the world and more.

This itinerary has been crafted by our Local Agency with one idea in mind: to inspire you. Every element can be adapted to your needs and your interests, from duration to accommodation and activities.

Day 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and city tour

• Transfer from Airport the hotel.

• After refreshment, we will visit Gandan Monastery to learn about Tibetan Buddhism of Mongolia and national museum about Mongolian history. Visit the main square and watch traditional concert of folk dance and music. Feast on Mongolian traditional meal for dinner. Stay overnight in hotel. 


Cultural site : Visit prayer’s temple with 26.5 m indoor statue of Avalokitesvara and other temples. Watch folk dance and music, contortion as well as mask dance.

Historical site : Visit national museum. Walk along the main square and visit Sukhbaatar and Chinggis khan statue. 

Sites visited in the activity : Gandan monastery for an hour, National museum for 2 hours, Main square for 30 minutes, Concert for 70 minutes.

Day 2: Terelj national park (70km – 1.5 hours)

• This morning your driver and guide pick you up from the hotel and take a scenic drive through alpine magnificent mountains.

• Traverse through iconic Turtle rock and drive to Buddhist Meditation center in the mountainside.

• Explore the center with a stunning hike from crossing the short trail bridge to stepping 108 stairs.

• Experience riding Mongolian pony horse with local guide and have a breathtaking time. Enjoy leisure time and try Mongolian archery at the Ger camp. 

Hiking : Hike to the Ariyabal meditation temple uphill for 30-40 minutes. 

Horseback riding : Ride horse for an hour through mountain and hill. 

Traditional sport : Archery for 30 minute to 1 hour.

Day 3: Genghis khan statue & Khustai wild horse park (250km – 4 hours)

• Today we will start our tour taking a short drive to the Chinggis Khan Equestrian Statue Complex, 40m tall statue of Genghis Khan on horseback.

• Visit museum and reception area. Try Mongolian warrior armor and queen costume for photography. Climb the steps up to the horse’s mane to get a view of the surrounding river and hills.

• Leaving the complex, we will head to Khustain National park which is a home of wild horse total about 400 adopting in wild life. Upon arrival learn a story of this truly wild horse and enjoy a hike to spot them. After a short drive in the park, arrive in our nomad family and stay overnight in boutique Ger. 

Cultural site : Climb the stairs and visit horse’s mane. 

Hiking : Hike to spot wild horses for 30 minutes to 1 hour. 

Sites visited in the activity: Genghis khan statue complex, Khustai national park.

Day 4: A day in nomadic life

• A day in nomadic life starts with milking cow right after sunrise. Help the nomad with daily chores from milking cow, processing dairy products (cooking milk, preparing butter), rounding up livestock and lassoing horse.

• Try hands-on handcraft making leather rope for horse whip. Host family will teach you to cook Mongolian food dumplings and have dinner together. Play knuckle bone game with kids and spend another night in Boutique Ger. 

Nomadic chores : Milking cow and preparing dairy products for 1.5-2 hours. 

Handcraft : Hands-on craft - making leather horse whip for 1 hour. 

Cooking class : Prepare dumplings and cooking milk tea for 1 hour.

Day 5: Erdenezuu monastery and Former capital Kharakhorum (300km – 4 hours)

• Today we will head to the former capital city and visit Erdenezuu; the first Buddhist monastery surrounded by huge 400m x 400m walls built from the ruins of Kharakhorum, in 16th century.

• Visit the Erdenezuu monastery complex and the Kharakhorum museum presenting mind-blowing archeological findings dated back to Stone Age, Bronze Age and 13th century. Stay overnight at Munkhtenger Ger camp. 

Cultural site : Learn from Tibetan Buddhism into Mongolia ; Learn from ancient empires and Great Mongol empire history. 

Sites visited in the activity : Erdene-Zuu Monastery complex, Karakorum museum.

Day 6: Hike to Tuvkhun hermitage and eco lodge stay (70km – 1.5 hours)

• We will visit Tuvkhun temple located on top of the mountain in Khangai range and hike 5 km to the temple each way (horse riding is possible).

• The temple is placed in a unique natural rocky landscape where there are different places of pilgrimage including hermit caves, temples as well as a rock with Zanabazar’s footprints on.

• Arrive in eco lodge and enjoy leisure time. This evening we will look up at the sky and watch the movement of the Moon and the star with telescope. 

Hiking : Hike uphill to the mountain above 2000 meters’ sea level (2-3 hours), horse riding is possible.

Day 7: Visit yak herder family and explore Orkhon waterfall (90km – 2 hours)

• Today we will drive to the Orkhon waterfall, a part of Unesco world heritage site. It is 24 meters high waterfall formed by volcanic activity where you can swim and hike.

• Here we will meet a yak herder family who lives near the waterfall area and discover their way of life. Stay overnight in same eco lodge. 

Hiking : Visit Orkhon waterfall and surrounding area with easy hike for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Day 8: Mini Gobi – Khugnu Khan Nature Reserve (160 km – 3 hours)

• This morning, we will travel to Khogno Khan Nature reserve. Once in the reserve, we will visit ruin of temple called Erdenekhamba and look over Elsen tasarkhai sand dune; extended 80km displaying a taste of the Gobi Desert.

• Arrive in a local herder family and ride camel for an hour. Stay overnight in eco lodge. Camel riding : Ride Bactrian camel for an hour.  

Sites visited in the activity : Elsen tasarkhai sand dune / Bayan Gobi area.
