An update from Evaneos
Mongolia

Souvenirs from the land of yurts.

Don't freeze to death...dress the Mongolian way.

Dress the Mongolian way!

Mongolian traditional dress and hats are beautiful and very colourful - they're classic souvenirs to bring back from your trip. Other typical souvenirs are cashmere clothes, not least because Mongolia was one of the world's first producers of this soft, luxurious material. Then there are traditional shoes, again colourful and also very warm. You may well have bought a pair before going on your souvenir shopping spree , as they're a great way to protect your feet from the cold during your trip!

Jewelery, objects, rugs and riding gear...Mongolia has numerous souvenirs on offer.

Mongolians are largely Buddhist, so you'll find statues of Buddha almost everywhere, alongside other traditionally religious items. You can also offer your friends Mongolian jewelery or a traditional rug.

You may want to bring back day-to-day items that the nomadic Mongolians use, such as decorations hung on yurts or a wooden sweat scraper, an indigenous tool famous for scraping sweat off horses. Admittedly, it may sound a bit disgusting, but it makes for a typical gift!

Daily life

Some advice if you're visiting the Naraan Tuul market.

Take a trip to the Naraan Tuul or 'black market' in Ulan Bator. You'll find a huge array of incredible Mongolian souvenirs. But beware of pickpockets who scour the area. Be careful when it comes to ancient objects, as exporting antiquities is illegal and they're likely to be confiscated by Customs when you leave.

And don't forget to bargain hard when shopping in Mongolia!
