This itinerary has been crafted by our Local Agency with one idea in mind: to inspire you. Every element can be adapted to your needs and your interests, from duration to accommodation and activities.
Upon arrival you will be warmly met and transferred to your city hotel. Your program for the first day will depend on your arrival time and whether you prefer to rest or start RIGHT AWAY to discover Nairobi. Details to discuss at time of booking.
Our guide will pick you up at your hotel after breakfast. And we will walk or use uber as way of. We will start by exploring the Nairobi Central/CBD area. Enjoy a walk on the vibrant streets of the city centre to get an insight of Nairobi lifestyle – Stop, discover, taste, shop while walking at free leisure. You will see it all: business people, cool Matatus, urban Masais, fruits, art, you name it! And in between we will stop for a delicious Kenyan coffee or even better, a Samosa (we know where to find the best ones). Our guide will offer you several options to visit during the tour, ranging from the traditional to the alternative, such as:
A visit to Kuona Artists Collective: An artist community located in the green leafy suburbs of Nairobi where artistic ambiance is in abundance. This is a great place to meet some of the most talented artists of the country! You'll find art in every corner, from the artists' different booths to the last corner of the garden. Cocktails on Friday afternoons - pass by if you're close.
Nairobi Railway Museum: A cool interesting place to visit, the museum is tucked away amid the modern skyscrapers of the central business district. Wandering on and around the locomotives makes for a lovely outing and gives you a surprising amount of insight into the nation’s development. The museum itself is almost a time capsule within a time capsule—a well preserved effort from the post-independence days of the 1970s to conserve an emblematic part of its colonial past.
Wasp & Sprout: before going back to the hotel stop here for an easy bite or mingle with local creatives and expats while enjoying a cocktail or Tusker baridi. Share your day impressions with your guide and ask any questions that come to mind about Naitobi, its ways and people. Stop by the gift shop, filled with unique local specialties, gifts and unique pieces created by local artists.
After this stop, head back to your hotel – evening at free leisure.
If you would like to go out of the hotel we could recommend visiting:
Mercury Lounge: trendy. Good cocktails. Excellent music. Easy bites.
Too Early for Birds: a show with a crew that brings history alive in breathtaking ways, exploring everything from newspaper headlines to Kenyan idioms,” says Wachuka.
Included : Breakfast.
Pick up from your hotel and drive through the scenic countryside with a stop along the way at Great River Valley view point. Descend into the great rift valley and stop at Narok town for coffee and samosas.
Kandili ! More a community than a lodge, a place with a unique vibe and full of authenticity. Run mostly by the Masai community, here you will have the opportunity to get to know the Masai community in a closer and more authentic way.
A sunset treat - Conversation with a Masai
Back from your safari we will have ready for you a perfect place in the garden in front of the fire, surrounded by dozens of kandilis (candles). Drink on hand, you will get to know what you wish about the untainted Masai culture and how it has withstood the test of changing times. This will be an encounter where you will share a drink and impressions with some Masai people, both parties amicably seated by the fire. From this conversation you can ask any question to learn more about the Masai traditions. After sunset, move over to the restaurant for dinner then retire to bed after a very rewarding day.
Overnight at Kandili Camp x 3 nights
The following two days you have an early morning game drive. Mid-morning to relax and enjoy camp facilities or visit Masai Manyatta to experience more about the culture. This is a day where you can choose to get a bird's eye view of the reserve by going an early morning balloon safari. On the last day you have sundowner in the bush to look forward to. It is set in the bush where you can get to gaze over the endless expanse of Africa as the sun sets in the west.
Further suggestions and two of our favourite experiences while in Kandili
Balloon safari: It is almost impossible to describe how incredible this experience is and how magical it is to see the Masai Mara from above. It is an impressive experience that you will carry in your memory forever.
Visit of the local school: More than 300 children who we love to visit when we are in the area and also support whenever possible. A touching experience that might make you look at life differently. We challenge you to a race with one of the little ones - you're going to lose.
Included : Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Drive back from Masai Mara to arrive Nairobi by lunch time. You will have a driver and guide at your disposal - the afternoon is all yours to explore the city of Nairobi. Our activities menu goes on this direction – choose from the following options:

- J’s in Westlands
- The Elephant on Kanjata Road
Included : Breakfast.
Transfer to Wilson Airport for your schedule flight to Lodwar Turkana. Depart at 07:00 to arrive at 08:00. At Lodwar airport you will be met by a representative from Eliye Springs and transferred to the camp by the lake shores. On the way you will find Tarkanians carrying water, walking long distances on the merciless heat. Stop and say hi and if you don’t mind handle some bottle of water, they will highly appreciate it and may compensate you with having a brief chat with you and sometimes let you take a picture.
Arrival at the hotel. Have a cold drink, you will need it. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the lake, visit the local village (by foot), take pictures. Even simply enjoying a beer by the hotel beach bar will be a wonderful experience.
You're going to be surrounded by the extraordinary people of Turkana. The hotel is in the middle of the community and work hand in hand with the local people. The Turkana women will amaze you with their unique craft and the dozens of necklaces on their neck; Turkana women wear necklaces they make themselves. They are an indication of social status. A woman without such jewelry has little hope of finding a husband. The more necklaces a woman wears, the greater her chances of finding a suitable match. Polygamy is widespreadd.
Overnight at hotel.
Option 2 - Tortoise Lakeview Camp
Unapologetic, efficient, open and full of life this is Agneta, the owner and manager of Tortoise Lake Camp, a place as original as its owner. A few minutes from Eliye Resort, this is a unique place located on a small hill overlooking the imposing Lake Turkana. The place is formed by a group of individual Bomas, built by women of the Turkana tribe, highlighting the local style but with appropriate amenities. The bomas are relatively spacious and practically all have lake view. The bathrooms are shared, but Agneta and her team keep everything on pristine conditions.
A unique experience, you can also choose to sleep outside - in front of your Boma and under the stars of the African sky - just like the locals do.
Day trip to Central Island and Moite.
The best day EVER! Wild nature, beauty and uniqueness – A day to remember.
Light clothing / shorts / sun protection, hat, camera, mountain shoes and no fear of getting wet, climbing or roast in the sun. The majestic views and sweeping lakes, placidly resting in the belly of Central Island, and the incredible Moite people will make you forget any discomfort. It'll be worth it.
Emerging starkly from the blue-green waters of the largest permanent desert lake in the world, Lake Turkana, the Central Island is made up of three active volcanoes that belch sulphurous smoke and steam. Three crater lakes, Crocodile Lake, Flamingo Lake and Tilapia Lake, provide breeding grounds for the world’s largest concentration of Nile crocodiles. Central Island has a campsite where visitors can enjoy the beautifully haunting sight of the lake’s luminous waters wash up onto a black lava beach while the moon rises over the menacingly smoking craters.
We will take the boat at the hotel beach, the start of an exciting journey through the cooing turquoise waters of Lake Turkana. The overwhelming beauty of Central island and the vibrant kaleidoscope of colours that the nature of the region offers will make you feel alive and put a smile on your face. Our captain will guide you through the green-blue Flamingo, Crocodile and Tilapia Lakes. It is necessary to walk a little, but everything is compensated when you witness the theatrical beauty of these lakes. Pause for refreshments and light lunch.
After midday we go back to the boat for a visit to Moite.
Moite - A remote community in which many of the modalities of today's world have not yet arrived. You will be surprised by the customs and way of thinking of the tribe, as well as the typical and striking costumes of their women. It takes time to gain the trust of the tribe but once achieved they will let you into their unique world that will touch you in the deepest. As always, the children will be the first to open up to you. There will be nothing to sale here, no local craft, no invented explanations. All is real and crude and if you are sensible and polite enough you will be part of this world for some hours. Yes, it is rough, but we keep going back.
Back at the hotel, is already night and if you wish so, a fish dinner will be waiting for you. Fresh fish the Chef´s way, that’s our suggestion.
Tips: souvenirs in Turkana are unique and you will be doing a great contribution to the local community. You can get them from the local women by the beach, at the exotic free shop stand of Lodwar airport, or just talk to us, we can organize customizable pieces for you to accommodate your wishes.
Included : Breakfast and Dinner.
After an early breakfast, transfer to Lodwar airstrip for flight back to Nairobi. Depart at 08:45 to arrive at 10:05. Meet and transfer to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for flight back home.
