Things to see and do in Mykonos:

Mykonos island, the Ibiza of Greece as it is called, is particularly famous for the picturesque town and the fantastic beaches. The main town is very characteristic for its Cycladic architecture, with whitewashed sugar houses, lovely churches and cobbled streets. On a small hill above the town, there are traditional windmills, while the most beautiful quarter is “Little Venice”, with restaurants and bars right by the sea. The most fabulous beaches are located on the southern side of Mykonos island. Super Paradise, Paradise, Platis Gialos and Lia amaze visitors with the soft sand and the crystal water. Beach bars are open all day and attract many visitors for swimming, kitesurfing and other activities. In the evening, people head to the Town, where there are many bars. A nice trip is a boat trip to Delos, a small island that is considered an open archaeological site. According to mythology, Delos is the island where god Apollo was born, and this is the reason there is an entire sanctuary dedicated to this god.

Delos Island: Delos is a tiny island that can be reached by boat from the port of Mykonos Town. Delos was a sacred island for the ancient Greeks as, according the mythology, god Apollo had been born there. Remains of an ancient sanctuary and a theatre have been found on the island, which is a great open site today.

Windmills: The hill with the traditional windmills above Chora provides the best view of the village and the picturesque port. These windmills have been restored and have become the trademark of the island over the years.

"A Half-Day-Trip with a lot of impressions and useful information!

A pearl in the Aegean Sea – blue sky, beautiful snow-white houses, lovely beaches everywhere....

Starting the City and Island tour by walking the small and narrow streets, we have many possibilities to take nice photographs in the early morning, quiet city. We get orientation and information in the labyrinth of the old town as well as impressions of the small port and the churches in town. We will see the famous windmills and find Petros The Pelican, the mascot of Mykonos.

After this we are exploring the island by bus, visiting some of the most famous beaches and the inner land-scape. We see fishermen and “kaiki”s (traditional wooden boats), small private chapels and houses built in typical Cycladic style.

In the second main village of Mykonos, Ano Mera, an idyllic place 7km away from town, where you will have enough free time for a stroll around the traditional square and you can visit the monk monastery Panagia Tourliani built in the 16th century.

Next stop is Kalafatis beach where there is time to relax a little and have a coffee or a refreshment (not included in the price), before going back to town and to reach a place with a fantastic view all over the town and neighbor islands.

Afterwards, we take the short walk towards the most famous, and one of the oldest churches of the whole country, the Panagia Ekatontapiliani, (transl: our lady of the hundred doors), built around 400 AC.

The traditional Cycladic architecture is seen again later, as we reach Lefkes, the former capital of Paros with its lots of green and its breathtaking view. We continue our tour to Marathi, the ancient marble quarries, where the world-famous marble was mined for some of the most known statues and sculptures in ancient times (e.g. the Venus of Milos).

Later in the afternoon we arrive in Naoussa, the beautiful fishing village with all its Cycladic charm. We take a little walk through its small narrow streets and the port with the colorful fishing boats.

Things to see and do in Santorini:

Santorini island, located on the southern side of the Aegean Sea, is among the most popular Greek islands, along with Mykonos and Crete. The event that marked its history was the enormous volcanic eruption of 1,650 BC. This eruption changed the circular shape of the island and created the famous caldera, on top of which picturesque villages were constructed in the Medieval times. The caldera villages of Santorini are incredible with their traditional architecture, the paved streets and the breathtaking view to the sea. The village of Oia, is particularly famous for the romantic sunset, which is the main attraction that people come all over the world to see. Also, do not miss the restaurants with the amazing view of the volcano. This volcano can be visited by boat tour from the old port of Fira. On the southern side of the island, there are large beaches to enjoy a day in the sun. Kamari and Perissa are the best organized beaches and famous for their black sand, while very popular is the Red Beach. Close to the Red Beach is the Minoan Site of Akrotiri, which was covered in volcanic ash by the eruption of Thira.

The Caldera of Santorini is undoubtedly one of the natural wonders of Earth. The volcanic explosion that occurred here more than 3,500 years ago changed forever the topography of the Mediterranean coast.

The caldera of Santorini is actually a basin, four miles in diameter which scientists and archaeologists have linked with the myth of Atlantis. The landscape consists of steel rocks and cliffs that towers above almost touching the sky. It is more than a thousand feet above the sea level and extends underneath the sea for an additional thousand feet, thereby creating a perfect harbor. The caldera has an elevation, which varies between 150 to 350 meters. The distance from one end of the island (Cape Exomitis) to the other end (Cape Mavropetra) is 18 km. The island's breadth varies from 2 to 6 km.

Akrotiri Minoan Site: The Minoan Town of Akrotiri is one of the most important ancient sites on Santorini. It is located on the southern side of the island and the town was found almost intact, covered with layers of ashes. Scientists believe that this town was destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Santorini in about 1,650 BC. After many years of being shut down, the site reopened to visitors in April 2012.
