I enjoyed visiting Lake Constance, which is an ideal location for a pleasant cruise during your stay in Germany. I recommend the lake's north shore, with its wine-growing terraces and medieval castles.
I loved Meersburg Castle, an impressive edifice with huge dungeons and towering walls. Take the time to stop and admire the north shore's many religious edifices, including Birnau Abbey Church, a building part of the beautiful Rococo architectural movement. By the lake, there is the city of Friedrichshafen which is well worth a visit. A pleasant and relaxing spot, this town simply invites you to stroll and enjoy your surroundings! Friederichshafen is also famous for its Zeppelin Museum.
Set off from Friedrichshafen and head for the island of Mainau, also known as the "island of flowers" because of its enormous and splendid botanical gardens, full of dahlias, azaleas, orchids and other shrubs. It is well worth the magnificent wander through nature!
On the lake's south side is the Reichenau Island. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Reichenau is home to a famous Benedictine monastery and 9th and 11th century churches with splendid mural paintings and beautiful period works of art.
