Munich is a place to visit during a trip to Germany. I liked the peaceful atmosphere that emanates from Munich: it's nice to go for a stroll in the English Garden and walk around St. Mary's Square, the heart of Munich.
Munich museums are very beautiful: I particularly enjoyed the Pinakotheks for their rich collection of paintings from the Middle Ages through contemporary times and their exceptional artists, such as Dürer, Raphael, Poussin, Goya, Delacroix, Picasso... A visit that will give you a splendid trip through art history!
If you like beautiful monuments, I recommend the Residence, a large architectural complex. Take the time to admire the Museum there. I really liked the porcelain rooms and the Antiquarium ("Hall of Antiquities"), for its painted fresco barrel vaults. The Residence Treasury is also worth a detour for its precious objects inlaid with jewels, including the Royal Crown of Bavaria!
Fans of religious architecture will appreciate the Gothic churches of the old city, like the monumental Church of our Lady and the Church of Saint-Pierre withbeautiful sculptures. And don't forget the great baroque Church of the Theatines for its majestic dome, its sumptuous stucco and other colonnades.
History buffs can also travel to the Dachau memorial, near Munich, and discover its very educational museum on the concentration camps.
