Today after getting picked up by your private guide at your hotel, you'll head north out of Montpellier into the mountainous wilderness of the region. On this full-day excursion you'll taste regional wines and see for yourself the majesty of the wild nature of Languedoc.
Upon hotel checkout a private driver will meet you to drive you to the city of Carcassonne. This hilltop town in southern France’s Languedoc area is famous for its medieval citadel, La Cité, with numerous watchtowers and double-walled fortifications. The first walls were built in Gallo-Roman times, with major additions made in the 13th and 14th centuries. Château Comtal, a 12th-century castle within the Cité, offers archaeological exhibits and a tour of the inner ramparts.
After arrival and check-in at your hotel within the city, a local guide will meet you there to embark on a walking tour of Carcassonne.
Today you'll set out to see two incredible sites of Occitanie:
Rennes le Château, a small French hilltop village known internationally and visited by tens of thousands of visitors per year because of various conspiracy theories ; and
Château de Montségur, a former fortress that was once a Cathar stronghold before it was razed in the early 13th century.
Your guide will return you to your hotel at the end of the day.
