Situated in the Tibet Autonomous Region, about 160km southeast of Lhassa, the town of Tsetang is the third largest town in central Tibet.

My suggestion:
Hiking fans will enjoy exploring its monasteries and marvel at the wonderful scenery.
My review

Perched at 3,000m, on the slopes of Mt. Gangpori, this was once the capital of the Yarlung Dynasty that ruled during the 7th Century BC. It's home to several Buddhist sites.

According to legend the Tibetan people were born on Gangpori's flanks, after the Buddhist monkey god, Chenrezi, mated with a demoness. Apart from its market, Tsetang's selling point is its numerous monasteries, dotted around the town and its surroundings. Ones to check out include the Ganden Chökhorling Monastery , the ancient, ruinous Gajiu Monastery, Samye, Tibet's first monastery and the Mindroling Monastery, a one-time great learning center.
