A voyage of discovery in Canada, from one ocean to another

Canada is the world's second-largest country by area, and has coasts on three different oceans. Its vast territory extends over 5,000 kilometres from east to west, the same as the distance from Paris to Montreal.

Nature is everywhere, with an abundance of national parks and a wide range of landscapes - all of which will delight travellers seeking adventure: hiking, biking and road trips for stunningly beautiful trips throughout the year.

Having lived there a year, I was won over by the warm welcome, the generosity and the kindness of the people, whether they spoke English or French.

Books to read

O Canada, 10,000 Miles from Coast to Coast (published in French and English) by Bertrand Lemeunier and Eric Clement.

Bertrand Lemeunier, a French-Canadian photographer and author, rode a bike solo around Canada from May 2007 to January 2008. Travelling over 10,000 miles to raise money for the charitable Children's Wish Foundation, this personal work will show you a number of natural treasures from different provinces, as well as highlighting the diversity of the Canadian population from the photographer's encounters with the local populations throughout the journey.

Working with a journalist, Eric Clement from the "La Presse" newspaper, Bertrand Lemeunier had already published a book of photographs, "Français de Montréal," which tells the story of French nationals who moved to Quebec and made a success of their new lives.

Trans Canada Trail: 18,000 km Dream by Gerry L'Orange (13 October 2005). This album crosses Canada from east to west, exploring Canada's rich natural heritage as well as the everyday lives of its inhabitants. The ten provinces and three territories are all represented, with photographs that depict the diversity of Canada's landscapes, architecture, and cultural events throughout the year. The Trans Canada Trail is ideal for hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoe hiking, horseriding and skidooing, and is the longest recreational trail in the world.
