Customizable tour itinerary

This tour idea is fully customizable

This itinerary has been crafted by our Local Agency with one idea in mind: to inspire you. Every element can be adapted to your needs and your interests, from duration to accommodation and activities.

Day 1: Phnom Penh - Arrival & Sunset Boat Cruise

Upon arrival, you'll be met by a representative from our local travel agency and transferred to your hotel before setting off on a sunset boat cruise. Begin on the Tonle Sap River, which famously reverses direction each year, acting as the world's largest natural flood barrier for the Mekong River. Cruise past the Royal Palace compound and around the Chrouy Changvar Peninsular, past small villages and see fishing boats preparing their catch.

Visited:
Phnom Penh

Day 2: Wat Phnom - The Royal Palace

Today, you and your family will explore the stunning Royal Palace complex, home to the Cambodian royal family and a symbol of the nation. See beautiful royal gardens, landscaped with tropical plants and golden spires.

In the afternoon, continue on to the Silver Pagoda, named after the 5,000 silver tiles covering the floor, each weighing 1kg. Inside are some of the country's most cherished treasures, including a life-size gold Buddha studded with 9,584 diamonds, the largest weighing 25 carats.

Day 3: Phnom Tamao Wildlife Centre - Meet The Sun Bears

Go behind the scenes and learn what it takes to look after more than 100 rescued Sun bears at the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre! You will get to join the bear keepers in preparing food and enrichment toys to keep the bears happy and healthy in their forested sanctuary, as well as taking a look at the other endangered species at the Centre. After all that, you'll be glad to sit down and relax for a traditional Khmer lunch.

Day 4: Siem Reap - Cycle or Ox-Cart Ride

Leave Phnom Penh and travel north towards the provincial capital of Kompong Thom. En route, stop off at Skuon, affectionately known as 'Spiderville', to sample the local delicacy of deep fried tarantula! Carry on to the impressive pre-Angkorian capital of Isanapura, known today as Sambor Prei Kuk, where you can take an ox-cart or bicycle ride to the temples. Later, continue northwest, stopping off in Kompong Kdei to see one of the ancient Angkor bridges that were built to span the rivers. Continue on to your final destination of the day: Siem Reap.

Visited:
Siem Reap

Day 5: Angkor Thom and Bayon - Temples & Cooking Class

Start the day at Le Tigre de Papier, the leading cooking school in Siem Reap and learn the secrets of Cambodian cuisine. Take these recipes home and impress your friends or let your children cook for you with their newfound skills!

In the afternoon, you'll visit Angkor Thom & Bayon, where you will see amazing ancient structures, decorated with intricate carvings. Continue along the Terrace of Elephants towards the Baphuon, once of the most beautiful temples at Angkor, dating back to the 11th century. Finally, visit the enchanting temple of the Bayon. At the exact centre of Angkor Thom, this is an eccentric expression of the creative genius and inflated ego of Cambodia’s most celebrated king.

Visited:
Angkor Thom

Day 6: Ta Prohm - The Angkor Zipline

Wake up early to visit Ta Prohm Temple, which has been abandoned and left to the elements. Your children will love climbing over the huge tree roots twisting around the ruins. You'll also get the chance to go on the breath-taking Angkor Zipline, which is a unique way to enjoy Angkor and a family-friendly, adrenaline-fueled adventure. The course includes 10 zip lines, including a ‘honeymoon’ tandem line, rope bridges, a tree house and an abseil descent. There is also a nature trail here where you will be able to look out for families of wild gibbons.

Ta Prohm

Day 7: Angkor Wat - Scavenger Hunt

Put on your Indiana Jones hat and get ready for the legendary Angkor Wat Photographic Scavenger Hunt! Some of the challenges will require a photograph of a specific statue or carving, and others will require some interactivity. The scavenger hunt begins at the floating causeway of Angkor Wat, before continuing to the upper levels of the inner sanctuary. The final steps to the upper terrace of Angkor are the steepest of all for those who fancy a challenge, before you reach the sacred heart of Angkor Wat.

In the afternoon, you'll visit the floating fishing village of Kompong Khleang. In the wet season, the houses appear to be floating, as water laps at the verandas, but in the dry season, you'll be able to see the towering stilts holding them. We visit one of the pagodas here, built on the site of an ancient temple, and see the wall paintings.

Visited:
Angkor Wat

Day 8: Siem Reap - Flight to Kep

Today your driver will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to Siem Reap airport for your short flight to Phnom Penh, from where you will be driven to beautiful Kep. As you leave the suburbs of Phnom Penh behind, the road passes through some beautiful rural areas and there may be some good photo opportunities. Stop for a short break in Angk Tasaom before continuing to the old French-era beach resort of Kep and enjoying a well-earned rest.

Day 9: Koh Tonsay - Boat Trip to 'Rabbit Island'

Head to the pier to board a local boat for the journey to Koh Tonsay, otherwise known as Rabbit Island. Travel across calm waters to this beautiful palm-fringed island, home to a small community of fishermen and farmers. Enjoy some free time on the white-sand beaches that surround the island. After a leisurely lunch, there is more time to enjoy the sun, sea and sand before catching the boat back to Kep.

Day 10: Kompong Trach - Cave Expedition & Kayaking Trip

Today you will travel to the little town of Kompong Trach, stopping to visit the cave temple of Wat Kirisan and Phnom Chhnork cave, a large cave that contains a 7th century brick temple in remarkable condition. You will then travel on to the charming Riverside town of Kampot to explore the incredible ‘green cathedral’ of canals and channels that create a loop from the Kompong Bay River near Kampot. Choose a solo kayak, a tandem kayak or a stand-up paddle board for this aquatic adventure. Starting from Champa Lodge, you will paddle beneath a bridge and begin to explore the small backwaters. There are several guesthouses and cafes along the way where it is possible to stop for refreshments. The scenery is very impressive, with palms overhanging the narrow channels to create a tunnel of greenery.
